Top Tips on How to Choose Your Wedding Breakfast Menu

Thoughts from the Fossil Food Team

With so many different options out there, it can feel a little confusing to know where to begin when creating your wedding breakfast menu. You may have found everyone and their Gran wants to offer advice when it comes to planning a wedding which can add to the confusion on where to start. With the country on lockdown some of us have found we have more time on our hands than usual. Now could be the perfect time to plan your wedding catering.

Here at Fossil Food Catering the majority of our couples choose the bespoke menu approach. This allows you to put a stamp of your personality onto the plate. Afterall it is your wedding catering we are planning here – we want it to be 100% about you and your partner! Good food is easy... memorable food and excellent service shared with the ones you love – now that is what we are all about! Within our time in the wedding industry we have developed a process to create your bespoke wedding catering menu.

First off, we suggest pouring a glass or two of your favourite poison. Snacks are obligatory. Both help the creativity flow. Next take a moment together to give a thought into what kind of atmosphere you wish your wedding catering menu to enhance. Are you striving for a relaxed and informal feel? Perhaps you are bringing together many guests who will meet for the first time and wish for ways to break the ice? Then you may choose to serve sharing boards or bowls. Similarly you may wish to take this to new levels and add a touch of theatre to your wedding breakfast and love the idea of the interaction between guests carving their meal at the table – then we have just the sharing board for you here. Alternatively, intimate vibes are more your style... or perhaps you are channelling your inner Joey from Friends and just simply prefer not to share food. Then plated food could more up your street! Lastly if you want to have your cake and eat it - a hybrid of these styles is the way to go and offer a mixture of both formats with a sharing starter, plated main and sharing dessert.

So that is style and atmosphere established but what about the actual food??? The next step of your food journey is where we get into the detail. Begin by jotting down bullet point ideas. Include everything from food ingredients and flavours you both love – ingredients and flavours to avoid are equally important to include in your list too! Reminisce together over memorable meals shared and adventures you have explored - you may even wish to include a story or two of family traditions and memories you both cherish.

Perhaps you got engaged on the Cornish Coast? You may enjoy mini Cornish Pasties as one of your canapé options. Your honeymoon in Japan? You may like the sound of Steve’s twist on the nations favourite carb with side dishes of Miso & Homegrown Mint Potatoes.

Next send over your thoughts to us for Steve to work his magic on creating a bespoke sample menu for you to feast on. You’ll be surprised how those nuggets you share with us can be exported into a delicious menu. No one else would have experienced a wedding breakfast quite like yours before because it was created especially for you two.

The last piece of the puzzle is a highlight in most couples wedding planning calendars – your food taster! We include tasters with us as complimentary with a booking with all Fossil Food Catering weddings. We serve your menu (once ‘normal’ life resumes) exactly how we picture it be presented on the big day. We welcome your feedback so we can get it perfect to your personal tastes so please do suggest your tweaks and changes were required and just as importantly... come hungry! Following your taster, you will have your bespoke menu ready for the big day!

If you would like to discuss with us your bespoke wedding catering for your South West wedding and beyond then please do get in contact – we would love to hear from you! Either drop us a line on info@fossilfoodcatering.co.uk or fill out our enquiry form here and we will get back to you right away!
