Our story

We’re Steve and Kirsty! We live at Silverwood Farm in Devon, surrounded by countryside that shapes how we cook and how we host. We are just a short drive from Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast, where the landscape and coastline provide constant inspiration and access to exceptional South West produce and its producers.

Fossil Food Catering began here, and it continues here, grounded in seasonality, quality, and a guest-first approach to service.

Way back when

The early idea for Fossil came from time spent travelling and eating our way through countries around the world together, paying close attention to flavour, energy and cookery technique.

We were fascinated by how deeply food is woven into many cultures, playing a role not only in big celebrations such as weddings and events, but in everyday life, bringing people together and creating joy. It was during this time that we began dreaming of creating a catering company with people at its heart. We believe our food, and the way we approach service, create memories that last long after the day itself.

Fossil is now in its ninth year as a business, with Steve bringing over 25 years of experience across events and hospitality in the UK and Australia. We purposefully limit the number of weddings and events we take on each year so we can stay closely involved. We both personally attend every event, leading from the front and delivering the standard our couples and clients expect and deserve.

A personal touch

There’s no getting away from it: planning a wedding often requires a significant investment of time and attention, especially when you are balancing work, travel and decisions across multiple suppliers.

“Our role is to make the catering side feel 100% taken care of and in the safest of hands.”

That means: steady communication and practical guidance at every stage. You will always know what happens next, what we need from you, and what we are taking care of behind the scenes.

We keep things as straightforward as possible. Menus are curated around the season, the setting, and how you want your day to unfold. Dietary requirements are handled with care, and service is paced so everything feels relaxed, polished, and timed with purpose.

Meet the Team

Fossil is led by Steve in the kitchen, with Kirsty taking care of planning and front of house. You’ll get to know us very well as we are both present throughout your wedding or event journey.

Steve’s cooking is firmly rooted in produce and flavour, with a vibrant creativity that comes from years in the industry and a life spent close to the land.

Kirsty brings a vibrancy and much-needed organisation that’s needed to make a wedding day or catering event feel effortless, keeping all those tricky moving parts aligned while looking after you and your guests.

You might also hear us mention Baby Baxter along the way. He is very much a part of life at Silverwood Farm, and a reminder that we run Fossil as people, and not just a faceless operation, all the while making sure standards for your special day are met!

Steve | Head Chef

With over 25 years of professional experience – including 15 years within the wedding industry – he brings classical training and global influence to every event. Growing up on a farm sparked his early inspiration and connection to ingredients from the land.

His roots are firmly grounded in French and British classical cookery, concentrating on enhancing local ingredients and produce.

Having worked in leading restaurants and hotels across London, Australia, Devon and Dorset, he is passionate about showcasing exceptional local produce, sourcing from nearby fishermen, organic farms and trusted regional suppliers wherever possible.

Throughout his career, Steve has trained under renowned chefs and delivered exceptional dining experiences across an array of beautiful wedding venues and bespoke settings. Whether working within historic estates, countryside marquees, or intimate private homes, he approaches each celebration with creativity, consistency, and attention to detail, tailoring every element to reflect the couple and their surroundings.

Travel remains a constant inspiration. The many countries he has visited continue to influence his menus through the cuisines and techniques he has experienced, while always staying true to his classical foundations.

It takes a village...

We are proud of the team behind Fossil. In an industry where staff can change from event to event, ours has stayed remarkably consistent for years. It’s the kind of stability that creates a service that feels smooth, well-rehearsed, and relaxed, with familiar faces who understand your day and understand each other.

On the day of the wedding or event, that experience is visible in the details. The kitchen and front of house work in unison, timings are managed behind the scenes, and guests are looked after. You get a close-knit, super professional team, led by people who are fully invested in the outcome.
